4 Creative Ways to Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

As the days pass by and 2017 looms nearer and nearer, the need for creating a new year’s resolution mounts. We should start asking ourselves, “What should I change this coming year?”

However, a lot of people go through the problem of not being able to achieve their goals. While part of the issue may lie within the person them self, oftentimes the very thing keeping us from attaining the resolution is the resolution itself.

Spurred on by feelings of seasonal determination, a lot of us often set up long-term goals that we may not realize are easier said than done. We may say things like “I’ll lose weight” or “I’ll read more books” without truly considering the steps that we have to climb to get to that goal.

Now’s the time to put an end to that.

Set one realistic goal

  • A – Action-oriented.
  • R – Reasonable. Rewarding.
  • T – Time-bound. Trackable.


Gain support from friends and family

There’s nothing quite like the support of our loved ones during challenging times, and the same could be said for those who are trying to attain their new year’s resolutions. Tell everyone about your goals, and instruct them to check up on you every now and then. Not only will this give you a sense of accountability, but it will also keep you reminded of what you’re truly trying to strive for this year!

Use visual reminders

Don’t rely on others exclusively to remind you about your goals. Instead, find ways to remind yourself, too. There are a myriad of ways you can do so. You can use:

  • Sticky notes
  • Your smartphone
  • A daily journal
  • Handwritten signs

To make things more fun, don’t limit yourself to simply writing your goal down. Perhaps spice it up with an inspirational quote or a photo of someone who’s already done something similar to what you’re trying to achieve.

Take baby steps

Progress is never instantaneous – otherwise it would be called results. That said, make sure to remember that you have the right to take your time with your goals. Break down what you have to do on a daily basis and achieve that first before thinking about the goal as a whole in itself.


Achieving our new year’s resolutions may sometimes be an exercise in patience, but in the end it’s definitely worth it should you achieve it.
